500 Rum — also called Pinochle Rummy — is Rummy with a scoring engine. Dig into the discard pile, lay melds that score toward 500 points, and play aces high or low for 15 points each.
How to play 500 Rum
Play follows Rummy, with two changes: you may take any card in the discard pile if you meld it at once, scooping every card above it; and your melds score toward 500, with deadwood subtracted. The first player to 500 points wins.
500 Rum strategy
The discard dig is powerful but loads your hand — only reach when the meld is worth it. Banking melds early scores points but hands your opponent lay-off targets, so balance points against a light hand.
